Attending a Franchise Tradeshow

Attending a franchise tradeshow is a very good opportunity to seek out business opportunities, by searching and comparing franchises. It is possible to seek dozens, maybe hundreds of franchisors in one day if these tradeshows are well organized. An exhibit like this is also a time and money saving opportunity which should not be missed.

Before attending, it is important to know at least the general aspects regarding what searching for, buying, and owning a franchise entails. After you have developed the basic knowledge, you should think what types of business interest you most. Here is where franchise tradeshows come into the scene. They are maybe the easiest way to find out about available business opportunities.

These series of steps should be followed before attending such an event:

The most important thing is to have researched thoroughly about owning a franchise. You should know how much you're willing to pay, and in what ways you'll need the franchisor to help your business. Franchises have different levels of involvement. How much help do you need versus how much freedom do you prefer.

Try to get a list of which franchises will be attending the event. Once you do that, do some of your own research on the franchises that sound the most interesting to you. Then you can make a list of which booths to visit and prioritize them into those you must visit, would like to visit, or will visit if there's extra time. Sometimes there are long lines at the one's you want to talk to most. Look for the others on your list and come back later to make the most of your time at the franchise tradeshow.

When finally attending such a tradeshow, one will be flooded with information coming from every franchisor owning a booth there. It is very important to know how to filter all the information received, but more important, to be prepared to ask questions. Do not let the fliers account for most of your sources, but discuss you questions and concerns with the franchisor's representatives. Ask whatever is important for you to know before deciding on taking up any franchise. Be sure to take notes, it's unlikely that you'll remember all the important details after talking to everyone.

Many deals are signed at these shows, but unless you came in with that plan, it's not recommended. Get the all the information you can from the franchises you're most interested in and take it home to do additional research. The trade shows are a good place to get a lot of your questions answered, but shouldn't be considered a one-stop-shop. Buying a business on impulse is never a good idea.
